Knitting and crochet podcast on Youtube about craft, culture, making & fun modern projects

Episode 52: I finally get the mohair trend

Eek! Have I finally succumbed to the lure of a KNITTING TREND??? Cosy up for another episode of my knitting podcast, where I share what I’ve been making. In this vlog, I dive deep into fibre experimentation and swatch development for my recent design collaboration – the Mid-Winter Knits collection with Aroha Knits, which was inspired by the starry night sky at the winter solstice. It’s been a really interesting project to work on, and I’m so happy that it’s finally out in the world! I’ve also been knitting a scrap sock for my Stashless2022 contribution; plus: sock mending! rambling thoughts! the geopolitics of identity and knitting! The intricacies of dye, hue dominance and fibre!

Have you recently given in to any knitting trends, or are you a happy bandwagon-jumper? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Featured projects

My new designs are the Bundle of Stars shawl & Starlit Night fingerless gloves.

The previous Winter Solstice collaborative designs are the Ginger Snaps fingerless mitts & Brandy Butter hat.

I mended my sample Hawthorn Tincture shawl after enthusiastic rosebush-adjacent frolicking…

Honourable mentions

Francoise Danoy’s designs for Aroha Knits are the Whetu hat & Whetu cowl.

Yarn support was provided by ITO Yarn, The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers & The Urban Purl. The Urban Purl also previously provided yarn support for my Sagittate Cowl design!

I previously collaborated on Winter Solstice designs with Dianna Walla.

The Craft Expertise research project is conducted by Dr. Karen Patel, who I met through the artist Lorna Hamilton-Brown.

My scrap socks are inspired by Danish knitwear designer Laerke Bagger.

I’m enjoying watching The Green Bean YouTube podcast by Katie Green.
