Yarn weight chart

A chart to help understand yarn weight and thickness

How yarn is described and sold generally depends on the  conventions of the local market. For instance, certain yarn weights are more common in the US than the UK; sometimes different names are used; and some European countries forego naming the weight entirely and only list the recommended gauge.

All of our original knitting patterns include description of the technical properties of the recommended yarn, and include both UK and US names for the yarn weight used where necessary. Remember that the yarn manufacturer’s recommended gauge and needle size is only a suggestion! You’re free to use differently-sized needles to play with different fabric effects – see our Swatching 101 tutorial for much more information on this.

Use the search bar to quickly find the size you need.
